Swing Maui is Non-Profit Social Dance Academy, teaching all things swing. All forms of Swing Dancing are taught in our classes and danced at our socials:
East Coast, West Coast, Lindy Hop, Lindy Blues, Charleston, Balboa, Carolina Shag, Bal-Swing, Jitter-Bal, etc. and so on. If it swings, you're likely to find it here.
Basics - 7pm
Just like it sounds. We start from the very beginning of what ever segment we are working on.
This is the place for beginners who have never danced before and for intermediate dancers who want to
improve their basic techniques.
Intermediate - 8pm
Intermediate picks up where the previous series Basics classes left off so you can progress smoothly
into more advanced dancing.
Social Dancing
Social Dancing before, between and after classes to practice what you've learned in class.
Instructors and advanced dancers are available to dance with and to help you on an individual basis
with any questions or challenges you may be having with any of the material taught in class.
"Any Swing Goes"
On the Second Monday of every month is "Any Swing Goes", a Pot Luck Social Dance from 8-10pm.
A variety of DJ'd music will be played appropriate to all the different styles of swing. Requests are taken.
This is your chance to put into practice everything you've been learning in classes in a true social setting.
It is also your chance to practice it in a social setting before you take it to the club scene.
Class Structure
Class segments are from 3 - 5 weeks in length, depending on the subject matter and the calendar.
As you can see from the example below, each Intermediate segment is an extension of the previous Basic segment,
so you can smoothly transition from a beginning level dancer to an intermediate level dancer in each of the
different styles.
You will also notice that the series wraps around on itself, so you can jump in at any segment in the series
and eventually you will get a complete cycle.
| Basic (7pm - 8pm) | Intermediate (8pm - 9pm) |
| Jitterbug, East Coast Swing (6 Count Lindy) | Balboa and Bal-Swing |
| West Coast Swing | Jitterbug, East Coast Swing (6 Count Lindy) |
| Lindy Hop (8 count) | West Coast Swing (8 count) |
| Lindy Charleston | Lindy Hop and Fast Lindy |
| Balboa | Lindy Charleston |
Each cycle is a little bit different. Although we teach many of the same basics each cycle, we also mix it up with new moves and different techniques from what was taught before. This means you can repeat an entire cycle and continue to learn new stuff.
Workshops
We also hold Advanced Workshops for those who want to go beyond what the classes can offer
and truly become a great dancer. Workshops will include such topics as "Dips and Tricks",
"Lindy Blues for Couples", "Musicality", "Lindy Hip-Hop" and more.
Date, Time, Location & Topic details of these special workshops will be announced as they are set up.
Class Schedule
Current class schedules and where we are in the cycle can be found on Swing Maui's facebook page.

About Lindy Hop
Lindy Hop is the original American swing dance made popular in the
1930's & 1940's and danced to the big band music of such greats as Benny
Goodman, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller, and Count Basie.
Today's Lindy Hop is danced to many forms of music, including rock `n'
roll, blues and even hip-hop -- anything that has its roots in American
jazz. If it's got 8 beats and it moves your feet, you can dance the
Lindy Hop.
Lindy Hop can be danced fast and exciting, slow and romantic, and anything in-between. It's about connecting with your partner in a conversation of movement and rhythm, but mostly, it's all about fun.
We invite you to come for the lessons and the social dances, get involved, but mostly, get out there and get dancin'!
