Swing Maui is Non-Profit Social Dance Academy, teaching all things swing. All forms of Swing Dancing are taught in our classes and danced at our socials:
East Coast, West Coast, Lindy Hop, Lindy Blues, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, Bal-Swing, etc. and so on. If it swings, you're likely to find it here.

Basics (Beginning Classes)
Just like it sounds. We start from the very beginning of what ever segment we are working on. This is the place for beginners who have never danced before and for intermediate dancers who want to improve their basic techniques. Every beginning segment is a little bit different, even when the specific style is the same. For instance, the current East Coast Beginning segment is a little different than the last time East Coast was taught, so the classes are repeatable, new techniques can be picked up and it never hurts to practice your basics.

Intermediate Classes
Intermediate picks up where the previous series Basics classes left off so you can progress smoothly into more advanced dancing. The content of these classes varies from a Beginner Plus level of dancing to a more Advanced level, depending on the needs and nature of the current class participants.

Social Dancing
Social Dancing before, between and after classes to practice what you've learned in class.
Instructors and advanced dancers are available to dance with and to help you on an individual basis with any questions or challenges you may be having with any of the material taught in class.

"Any Swing Goes"
On the First Monday of every month is "Any Swing Goes", a Pot Luck Social Dance.
A variety of DJ'd music will be played appropriate to all the different styles of swing. Plenty of Foxtrot, the occasional Hustle... who knows? It's all about dancing and having fun! Requests are taken.
This is your chance to put into practice everything you've been learning in classes in a true social setting. It is also your chance to practice in a social setting before you head out to the club scene.

Class Structure
Class segments vary in length, usually from 3 - 7 weeks, depending on the subject matter and the calendar. Current and near future class segments and schedules are announced in the Swing Maui Group on Facebook. Intermediate segments are usually an extension of the previous Basic segment, so you can smoothly transition from a beginning level dancer to an intermediate level dancer in each of the different styles.

Class Schedule
Current class schedules and where we are in the cycle can be found on Swing Maui's facebook page.
If you have not joined the Swing Maui Group on facebook, I urge you to do so.
Workshop details, events, pictures, video clips... all kinds of things for the Maui Swing Scene can be found here.

Date, Time, Location & Topic details of these special workshops will be announced as they are set up.

About Lindy Hop
Lindy Hop is the original American swing dance made popular in the 1930's & 1940's and danced to the big band music of such greats as Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller, and Count Basie. Today's Lindy Hop is danced to many forms of music, including rock `n' roll, blues and even hip-hop -- anything that has its roots in American jazz. If it's got 8 beats and it moves your feet, you can dance the Lindy Hop.

Lindy Hop can be danced fast and exciting, slow and romantic, and anything in-between. It's about connecting with your partner in a conversation of movement and rhythm, but mostly, it's all about fun.

We invite you to come for the lessons and the social dances, get involved, but mostly, get out there and get dancin'!

Fine Print

It states boldly on our business cards, "Everybody Welcome!" and we really mean it.
But for some reason, we have to say this using the approved legalese wording. So here goes...

The Community Swing Dance Academy of Maui (Swing Maui) admits students of any race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the academy. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin in administration of its education policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other academy-administered programs.

Yep! Everybody Welcome!
